We are very excited to begin this new school year, and are delighted to have your child in our class. We just wanted to take a few minutes of your time to list out some classroom procedures and protocols that will help make the transition into kindergarten an easy one!
Updated October 2020
• Please make sure your child brings his/her backpack to school each and every day. Your child will need a folder. Please check your child’s folder nightly.
• Children will need a nut free snack and drink (or refillable water container) , and a lunch/drink (or lunch money/account set-up) daily. Please explain which food items are for which part of the day, so that your child does not eat both snack and lunch at one sitting! Labeling might help.
• Healthy snacks and drinks are highly encouraged in our class. Fruit, veggies, yogurt, raisins, applesauce, pretzels, cheerios, dried fruit, sliced turkey, cheese & crackers, hummus & pita, and fruit bars are some healthy ideas. Please don’t forget to pack utensils, a napkin and an ice pack if necessary.
•Lunch: Lunch costs $3.00 and includes milk. Milk alone costs 50 cents. (You can send your child to school with a lunch packed from home, and s/he can purchase milk only.) If you are sending your child to school with actual money, please put the money in a labeled zip-lock baggie or in small change purse of some sort. Please make sure your child knows where it is in his/her backpack. It will stay in the backpack until lunchtime. A much easier option is to pre-pay for days or weeks at a time through the cafeteria.
• We are a nut free school. Sharing snacks with classmates is not allowed.
• Birthday Celebrations: On the day of your child’s birthday, (or on the closest school day if it falls on a weekend or during vacation), your child’s name will be announced over the loud speaker! Woo-Hoo!
Please do not send any cupcakes or similar to the classroom on this special day. This is a school-wide rule.
During your child's birthday month, you will have an opportunity to send it materials for a craft project that the students can create in class. Summer birthdays will be celebrated in June.
• LABEL EVERYTHING!!! Jackets, sweatshirts, hats, gloves, backpacks, Tupperware, lunch boxes, snack packs, ice packs, etc.
• Please bring a change of clothes to school with your child in a zip lock bag – socks and underwear too! Please LABEL the bag. If your child comes home wearing them, please replenish ASAP.
• Outdoor Recess: Please prepare your child for outdoor recess daily. Sneakers, appropriate outerwear, etc.
• SPECIALIST Schedule: N/A at this time
• Getting in touch with the teachers: The best way to contact us regarding minor issues during the school day (changes in dismissal, etc.) is to write a note and put it in your child’s folder. We check the folders every day. You are also welcome to call the school and speak to someone in the front office but please know that we will most likely not check voicemail or emails until the children are gone for the day.
If you would like to contact us for any issues that can wait a day, please email us at [email protected].
THANK YOU !
